Required for July 2026
We are seeking to appoint a committed, experienced, and compassionate professional to join our team as the Operational Safeguarding Officer. The role is full time, term time only plus 22 days initially with flexibility during the school holidays and possible option of additional days.
This pivotal role is responsible for leading and managing safeguarding, child protection, and support with attendance, behaviour support, student welfare, and pastoral services across the school. The successful candidate will ensure that all safeguarding procedures are fully compliant with statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), Working Together to Safeguard Children, and local authority safeguarding requirements.
The postholder will play a central role in coordinating early help and intervention strategies, supporting vulnerable students, managing safeguarding concerns, and promoting a culture of wellbeing, safety, inclusion, and positive outcomes across the school community.
Working closely with students, families, staff, and external agencies, the successful candidate will provide effective leadership and oversight of the safeguarding team while ensuring high standards of safeguarding and pastoral care are consistently maintained.
We are looking for an individual with substantial safeguarding and pastoral experience within an educational setting, strong knowledge of current safeguarding legislation and guidance, and excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, resilient, student-centred, and passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of young people.
Fairfield High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced check and further pre-employment checks will be conducted in accordance with KCSIE. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
